Carrick-Built Ship Protected

The Carrickfergus Tall Ship Project has welcomed the news that the historic ship Result has received a new weatherproof cover. The vessel built in Carrickfergus in 1893 served for decades as a merchant cargo trader and saw combat during the First World War when in service as a Royal Navy Q-Ship. She is currently on outdoor display at the Ulster Transport Museum. The previous protective cover had been damaged by winter storms.

National Museums NI the owners of the Result demonstrated their commitment to the vessel’s conservation through the procurement of the new protective cover. The bespoke cover will protect her from water ingress and help stabilise her condition setting the historic Carrick-built ship up ready for winter while work continues to secure her long-term future. The Carrickfergus Tall Ship Project are in discussions with National Museums NI to develop plans for the conservation and relocation of the vessel to Carrickfergus.

The Result is a unique survivor from the Victorian era and a First World War veteran. She can currently be seen outside at the Ulster Transport Museum with an exhibition in the neighbouring “B Galleries” charting her history. The local charity behind the Carrickfergus Tall Ship Project is currently fundraising and looking for volunteers to support their mission.
